Digestive Disease Center to Give Advice about GERD

NOVEMBER 22-28th IS GERD AWARENESS WEEK

Poughkeepsie, NY–November 2, 2015–In recognition of the 17th Annual Gerd Awareness Week, The Digestive Disease Center of the Hudson Valley is hosting a lecture on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) on Wednesday, November 18th, at 5:30 pm at its Fishkill office, 400 Westage Business Center Drive, Suite 209.

“It’s not a coincidence that GERD Awareness Week is always held during the week of Thanksgiving,” says Theresa Zangerle-McArtin, a registered dietitian with Digestive Disease Center. “For many who suffer from this disease, a holiday meal can ultimately cause great pain and can also lead to more serious complications.”

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition where acid from the stomach flows backward up into the esophagus. It affects about 15 million people in the U.S. When GERD is not treated, serious complications can occur, such as severe chest pain that can mimic a heart attack. A narrowing or obstruction of the esophagus, bleeding or a pre-malignant change in the lining of the esophagus can also occur.

Learn about the warning signs and why it’s so important to learn the facts and get treated. Find out how changes in your diet can make a difference!

Refreshements will be served. Reservations are encouraged by calling 845- 896-0736.
