Digestive Disease Center Kicks off Walk for Celiac Disease

Poughkeepsie, NY–The Digestive Disease Center of the Hudson Valley, the region’s leading Gastroenterology Medical Practice, is putting its digestive muscle behind the Fifth Annual Mid-Hudson Walk for Celiac Disease, Sunday, May 22th at Walkway over the Hudson.

The Walk will kick off on the Highland side of the bridge with registration at 10 am and a 11 am start. Pre-Registration is $20. The cost is $25 to register the day of the event.

The Walk will be followed by a Gluten-Free Fair with music, information and gluten-free food and beer.

“There are only a handful of events like this in the country to benefit the fight against Celiac Disease, and we’re proud to be a part of one of them,” says Dr. Ravi Hotchandani, a board-certified gastroenterologist with Digestive Disease Center. “Celiac Disease often goes undiagnosed, so we hope to educate people and raise money for support and research in the Hudson Valley community at the same time.”

More than 2-million Americans suffer from Celiac Disease, a digestive disorder that damages the small intestine and interferes with the absorption of nutrients in food. People who have Celiac Disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley.

Sponsored by Lite FM 92.1, Shop Rite Supermarkets, Schar, FeelGood Foods, Fidelis Care and Dutchess ProPrint, the event proceeds will benefit the Digestive Disease Center Community Fund and the ongoing research programs of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.
